GAZEBOS

Gazebos are a very common sight in Bali. These "Bale's" as they are called locally are often built alongside a pool or in the garden as a retreat facility. The Gazebos that we produce is a high end product to the smallest detail, with or without original Balinese carvings. Our gazebos are normally made from Bankgirai or Merbau and covered with thatched roofs (dried alang-alang grass) or with wood shingles. Terracotta roof tiles is an option.

FOR CLIENTS IN THE USA PLEASE REFER TO OUR SPECIAL BALI GAZEBO USA SITE AND CONTACT OUR SOLE DISTRIBUTOR.  CLICK <here>

(At the end of the gazebo page have the possibility to be navigated back to this page)

Each Gazebo is constructed as a knock down system and is easy to assemble (all parts are numbered).  Pictures taken during the pre-assembly process are included. Not one nail is used

.

Each unit comes with a Certificate Of Authenticity, stating the type of wood used, production place (Bali) and date of production.

Our prices include a contribution for the Indonesian reforestation program.

CAUTION: A number of countries do not allow fresh alang-alang (new seeding alang-alang grass) to enter the country. We only use non-seeding alang-alang (dried for a minimum of 6 months), while this old non-seeding grass is thoroughly fumigated with Ethylene Oxide and Methyl Bromide prior to shipment, a strict requirement in many countries. This fumigation process will earn you the ETO Certificate which is required in almost all countries of the world as to be able to have thatch imported.

You need to understand that it is a mistake to assume that a Phytosanitary Certificate is the same as an ETO Certificate. With a Phytosanitary Certificate only you will not be able to import thatch.

Click Thatched roofs to learn more about it.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS OF THE GAZEBOS

The standard gazebo has a thatched roof from alang-alang grass that has been dried for at least 6 months. The grass that we use is considered the best grass quality available in Bali. Minimum life time is 10 years (we do not use grass dried for too short a period as this may reduce the life time to 3 years).

Alternatively the thatched roofs can be changed into hardwood tiles or fired roof tiles in the color black, red, blue or green.

The standard gazebo is made from Bangkirai (Belau) hardwood or Coconut wood (for prices scroll down), however we can also produce gazebos from Merbau or Djati Teak.

No nails are used. All connections are made by tongue and groove, stainless steel threaded bars with stainless steel nuts and washers, stainless steel wood screws and/or wooden dowels.

Most of our Gazebos are made from selected Bangkirai obtained from the lush forests and sustainably managed hardwood plantations in Indonesia overseen by the Indonesian Government.

Please inform us in the event that a gazebo will be built in a Hurricane or Cyclone prone area, since we need to reinforce the structure to withstand the high wind forces.

Although almost all Gazebos that are locally produced in Bali are made from reasonably priced Coconut wood, the set back is that Coconut wood is not very durable and as such does not stand the test of time very well and is open for attacks by white ants. The result can be devastating. The same holds for the combination Merbau/Coconut wood and such a gazebo is only produced on special request. Mahogany is not advised as well, as this wood is not durable when used in the open. Only Teak, Iron wood and Bangkirai is not susceptible to termite attacks, while Merbau may rarely be attacked, depending on the grade of Merbau wood used. If you want to know more about these devastating crawly creepers  click here Termites

The units come standard with a Cetol finishing. Click <here> to learn more about Cetol

NOTE: We use the highest quality of wood. For more information click Wood species

Lifetime of untreated wood in the open (without any protective coating):

Djati teak: 40 to 50 years

Bangkirai: 30 years

Merbau: 25 years

Coconut: 3 to 5 years (*)

(*) Coconut wood is not a hardwood but a soft wood and is difficult to carve.

Gazebos are called "Bale" in Bali. These "Bales" are attuned to the climate and the culture, economical but sophisticated in design. These traditional pavilions of Bali are the result of centuries of experimentation and the blending of the best of Javanese, Nepalese, Chinese and Indian styles. The "Bale" used as retreat facility shall not be mistaken with the Bale in its original form. The "Bale" in its original form is in fact a stately square twelve-poster building that normally serves as a ceremonial pavilion. The "Bale" shown on the pictures is a modern development of the last 30 years, but still based on the order in the Balinese universe which is a three part division; the roof (the "God's portion"), the mid section (the "human section") and the base (the "netherworld").
